B.SC. Biotechnology

The department of Biotechnology, Administrative Management College, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore was established in the academic year 1999-2000. The department conducts Master of Science (M.Sc.) Biotechnology (four semester course) ever since its inception. B.Sc. Biotechnology (six semesters) course was also introduced from the academic year 2000-2001. These courses are affiliated to the Bangalore University and recognized by the Government of Karnataka.

Vision and Mission of the Programme
VISION: To produce competent Biotechnologists in the field of Biotechnology equipping them for the welfare of mankind. MISSION: To impart innovative and technical knowledge in the field of biotechnology to the urban and rural students. To impart quality education and create awareness towards socio-ethical implications of potentials of Biotechnology. To instill spirit of innovation and creativity in young minds towards research. To provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and learning resources that support academic and research excellence. To foster collaborations with industries and research organizations for joint research, consultancy, and knowledge exchange.
Programme Specific Outcomes
PSO-1: A profound understanding of fundamental biological concepts, an ability to apply biotechnology skills and its applications in core and allied fields. PSO-2: Students will be able to learn concepts and research approaches for their higher career in the field of biotechnology and develop their scientific interest. PSO-3: To impart in-depth practical oriented knowledge to students in various thrust areas of biotechnology, so as to meet the demands of industry and academia.
Programme Outcomes
PO1: Understand concepts in Biotechnology and demonstrate interdisciplinary skills acquired in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology and molecular biology. PO2: Demonstrate the laboratory skills in cell biology, basic and applied microbiology with an emphasis on technological aspects. PO3: Competent to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the fields of Plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology and microbial technology in pharma, food, agriculture, beverages, herbal and nutraceutical industries. PO4: Critically analyze the environmental issues and apply the knowledge gained in biotechnology for conserving the environment and resolving the problems. PO5: Demonstrate comprehensive innovations and skills in the field of biomolecules, cell biology molecular biology, bioprocess engineering and genetic engineering of plants, microbes, and animals with respect to applications for human welfare. PO6: Apply knowledge and skills of immunology, bioinformatics, computational modelling of proteins, drug design and simulations to test the models and aid in drug discovery. PO7: Critically analyze, interpret data, and apply tools of bioinformatics and multi omics in various sectors of biotechnology including health and food. PO8: Demonstrate communication skills, scientific writing, data collection and interpretation abilities in all fields of Biotechnology. PO9: Learn and practice professional skills in handling microbes, animals and plants and demonstrate the ability to identify ethical issues related to recombinant DNA technology, genetic engineering, animal handling, intellectual property rights, biosafety, and biohazards. PO10: Explore the biotechnological practices and demonstrate innovative thinking in addressing the current day and future challenges with respect to food, health, and environment. PO11: Gain thorough knowledge and apply good laboratories and good manufacturing practices in biotech industries. PO12: Understand and apply molecular biology techniques and principles in forensic and clinical biotechnology. PO13: Demonstrate entrepreneurship abilities, innovative thinking, planning, and setting up of small-scale enterprises or CROs.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand and apply core concepts of computer applications, including programming, data structures, algorithms, and database management. They will develop problem-solving skills and the ability to design and implement software solutions efficiently. Students will also gain practical experience with modern tools and technologies, enabling them to work effectively on real-time projects. The course fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and ethical awareness essential for professional success in the IT industry.
